Questions

How do your coaching sessions work?

After an initial introductory chat to find out what you need, we will agree on a preliminary number of sessions. Using effective careers guidance and bespoke techniques that work for you, we’ll identify specific aims and objectives and any sticking points to help move you forward.

All sessions are online and last for 50 minutes.

Is there any information I should send you before the first session?

When we have agreed to work together, I’ll ask for some relevant information about yourself so I can prepare effectively for the sessions.

This could include links to your CV, portfolio (and showreel) and any additional profile information and details. This helps me understand your situation, so I can offer you the best advice and guidance I can.

What kind of outcomes might I expect?

Most people achieve a better understanding of their own potential. This increases their motivation to improve job searches, portfolio content, or brush up on interview skills, along with a much clearer direction of the steps they need to take to do this. This winning combination makes success in their chosen career more achievable.

How many sessions should I have?

There is no 'one-size-fits-all' when it comes to careers coaching, it varies from person to person depending on your circumstances. I can work on an open-ended basis or agree a suitable number of sessions. Subsequently we’ll decide how much further support you may need.

Some people find after an agreed number of sessions they have enough

clarity and focus and are ready to move forward independently. Others value

on-going support and the relationship with me will continue for longer.

My aim is to ensure the coaching continues for only as long as it’s of benefit to you.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Everything said within the careers session is private - this is how coaching differs from talking to a friend or relative. Once you are comfortable with the format we have agreed on, the number of weekly sessions and the confidential space they provide, you will hopefully find the freedom to speak in confidence is of great value.

We will discuss the coaching contract in the initial session - personal information is not shared with any third parties, unless you give written permission to do so.

How long will I have to wait for my first session?

I aim to offer an initial assessment meeting within 1-2 weeks. Then we would arrange a number of coaching sessions to take place at the same time every week when convenient for you and where I have availability.

What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you want to cancel an appointment I require 48 hours’ notice, otherwise the session fee will be due. This is because I’ll have prepared for the session in advance to ensure you receive the best advice and guidance each time. Also, last minute cancellations prevent me taking other bookings to fill the gap.

What’s your professional background?

I combine 35 years as an award winning Motion Designer & Design Director in broadcasting, including BBC and Sky TV (London), with a qualification in Careers Guidance, and five years as a University Lecturer teaching design and employability skills.

I’ve developed an intuitive understanding of creative professionals through recruiting and managing multi-disciplined teams in the creative industries, and mentoring design students.

Why not prepare some questions of your own and get in touch?
